Bangkok Expressway - Publication

Up-Side Down Bangkok: Intervention–Strategy for the In-Between Space is a research publication developed at École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in 2007. The publication documents a design research project investigating residual spaces beneath Bangkok’s elevated expressway infrastructure. Through drawings, diagrams, and analytical narratives, it examines how these in-between spaces can be reinterpreted as active urban thresholds rather than infrastructural leftovers. By proposing a suspended sequence of public programs, the publication explores strategies of temporary occupation, adaptability, and spatial continuity, offering an alternative reading of large-scale infrastructure as a potential framework for collective urban life.
